the end is near

No, I am not  Nostradomus or any relative or follower of his to predict the end of the world, I am talking about this blog IIFMight which is coming to an end.

Probably this would be the last post (and a long post) on the blog and thereafter the domain http://iifm.blogspot.com will take you to the famous/infamous Blogger: 404 Page not found.... page.

When we joined IIFM in June 2004 (and had our debate discussing branding of IIFM) one of thing came out of the discussion that IIFM lacked brand visibilty out of the sector. So a guy looking for information on business school does not come across so easily to IIFM and those who know IIFM (from advertisements and admission notices in newspapers) were not exactly sure about IIFM. Searching info about IIFM on web was also not fruitful as there were very few pages (apart from official website) on IIFM (one of the more popular pages was by Shikha Kalra  on http://envindia.com a website run by our alumnus Chandra Kishore) and that page was not quite well recognised by the search engines as there was no emphasis on SEO techniques.

When I started this blog, blogging was not a term in everyones vocabulary and but a mention of this by CSR in classroom regarding my new initiative made many people to join as member (its another thing that many didnot contribute more than thier name on team member list!!). Though there were some early enthusiast who contributed and but could not sustain the same level of enthusiasm later.

But with 4-5 regular contributors, it came this far. Around 150 post in two years (not bad almost 2-3 post per week) and average 8-10 new visitors per day. The search engine rating of this blog went quite high (second most popular page after iifm official website) for anyone looking any info on IIFM and it directed many info seekers to this webpage and which later resulted in our mailbox getting bombarded with all sort of queries on IIFM and going through the queries we realized how little the students were knowing about IIFM.

Many of its contributed, started their own blog and their blogs are doing quite well (most notable is Nitin's Hindi blog). Since this was a community blog (read the tag line "blogs of IIFMight") the idea was content generation through community participation but this idea of Community Participation was not as appealing as Class Participation so later batches did not show any keen interest in contribution. Probably we didnot make much effort to elaborate on objectives of IIFMights.

So what were the objectives we had in mind while starting the blog?

  • Increasing webpresence of IIFM and letting the world know what IIFM is all about by putting up experiences and opinions of the student on the web.
  • Providing one source of guidance to future students.
  • Creating database of experiences of its students
  • Letting the new students know more about thier alumni by thier thoughts and providing them a chance to interact with them.
  • Building strong brand for IIFM while providing quality content and attracting visitors all across the world.

All the above objectives were partially fulfilled barrring the last one. I tried to request "issue centric" contribution from many of our alumnus without much luck.

On personal front, this blog gave me a lot. Invariable the enquiries about IIFM will found a place in my mail box and I made a point to answer all of them withought a fail. So I knew almost all of the new batches coming to campus or vice versa.

I think, the post is becoming too long. At the end I would like to have your comments regarding its shutdown (as it is not a personal blog though i have all the adiminstrative rights), should I go for that? For the moment, the blog is crying...

Give me contributors or Give me death...

Kya senti marta hai re tu,..

Well San every word from you is true....
You know what, we can never forget this blog, live proof ( i had a meeting in few minutes and am writing, just beacuse i think this is important and this also shows we regularly check tis blog.., many us do that for sure)

Yup you are right, this blog has certainly increased the web presence and also that the entries are very irregular now a days......

Lets analyse this, when the guys are out of campuss, there are variosu things to be dealt with, and very few keep up with the inspiration for writing blogs (especially when it requires time to think). So the persons who are out of campuss can be condoned for not writing (this is to those who have at least contributed twice to this blog). San leave this we are in hurry, we need to do few things

1. cancel the membership of those who have never written here, they can visit this as visitor.
2. we need to make hte preseent batches more repsonsbile for updates etc like the Picmacay even can be described here in detail and not necessarliy the cordi writes, the batch should feel abt it and write (I dont knw how many guys from preset batches have written to you for membership..).
3 A mail from you or say me, to the IIFM alumni and present batches to share this notion once again. I knw people live IIFM, where ever they are its just lack of time.

Dont be sad Dear, this blog is also our Dream very similar our other ( do u remeber the plct commitee :-) )

I dont understood whether you are thinking of removing this blog because of lack of comments or lack of visitors or lack of contribution.
Regarding first and second...i thinnk traffic is not the problem..there are people who regularly visit this place...i know a few of them...If comments is the reason, we will have to close our personal blogs if we goes by this reason...but we both know we wont do that.

So...cotribution...content is problem..let us see who is to blame for that. No body committed to you when the blog was started that we will write here, be it alumni, current batch or future batch. You craeted and I wrote here most of the times for self...and i think same will be reason for other contributors. So no point in saying that others are not cotributing....We werent able to start Champak (...sorry, Sampark)for this single reason for two years and we jad to close Kaledioscope for the same reason. If we(you) close this sapce for this reason...it will be repeating those mistake.
(Also see that this post of urs comes aftre a gap of 2 months and i have not written here since last 3 months...)
For me, BLOG is written not for those who visit there....but for myself...in reverse case, it will be a website, not BLOG.

Then..the 5 objectives u have put there, for 1,2 and 4, a forum would be an appropriate place and not a blog..though a blog can supplement to that forum(as u urself have written that you use to get numerous mails about IIFm thru this blog). no. 3 is already tru, this blog is a database of my experiences BUT I never wrote for any of these objectives and i dont think a BLOG shud have any set of objectives.

It seems, this commment shud have been a POST...but comment ko comment hi rahane do.....

Anyway..if u are going to delete this blog, inform me a day before, i would like to have a backup of all that is written here

And if this was a startegy for coompelling ppl to write something...congrates..u got that :)

Regarding Akhand's comment,I wud again say, u cannot compell anyone to write...unless they feel to do so, be it abt SpicMacay or any Bakar...

Anyway, i expect a post from Akahnd soon on this blog..If santosh do not delete it.

Bagla its all true n nice analysis, true the blog is for us and we write for ourselves.

A very subtle point in this conversation is that now we are out of campuss and we do want to somehow remain attached campuss infra... nahi!!!

Of course we cant compell ppl to write but at least we can show/tell what we feel.

kua bakar.. hai bbhai... sabse pehle to ye batao Why santosh wud want to delete this blog. Does some has t pay to keep it living, or is there some minimum contribution that has to be written in order to save a "institutional blog". If both questions have a negative answer then why is Santosh deleting this blog... May be he wrote just to show that he can delete this bolg...

Santosh said...

Mr. Anonymous
Santosh is not at all interested in deleting this blog and nor he wants to show that he can delet it. We need not to pay to keep it alive, but surely we need to contribute 'if it is an institutional blog'. Otherwise it would be an individual blog. Santosh's intentions are clear if you can read the whole blog and not this post only.. and I must say you are a bit late in commenting :-)...
Also please do let us know about you as well...
